Recently, SCIMAGO (a ranking organization of scientific research institutions – Spain) has just announced the rankings in 2020, accordingly, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology ranked 11th in Vietnam and 773th in the world according to the final score. In particular, considering each criteria individually, the ranking of the Institute was based on three criteria including the research performance, innovation results, and social impact respectively scored 492, 450, and 238.
SIR (SCImago Institutions Rankings) has been developed by SCImago which is a ranking system of scientific research competency of universities or research institutions around the world, with the purpose of providing the indicators which measure the bibliographic information relating to the quantity and quality of scientific papers published in the database of Scopus.
The ranking is the aggregate indicators based on the assessment of the research performance, innovation results and social impacts according to the proportion of 50%, 30%, and 20%. For the indicator of research performance, organizations have at least 100 publications in the Scopus database in the last year within the selected time period. The source of information used for the indicator of innovation results is the Patstat database. The sources of information used for the website visibility are Google and Ahrefs. SCIMAGA is a prestigious ranking, used by organizations such as the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam and the Nafosted Foundation as one of the reference bases for the evaluation process of science and technology organizations in Vietnam.
Over the past years, a number of different policies have been made by PTIT to promote the officials and lecturers to conduct the research and publication in both domestically and internationally scientific journals. In the period of 2014-2018, the Institute ranked 16th with 419 WoS and Scopus articles among top 30 nationwide universities which have the highest number of scientific articles.
