On 28th November, the 27th Vietnam Informatics Olympiad and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia, Hanoi 2018 were opened. This is the festival of Vietnamese and Asian Young Talents in Information Technology – Communications
The Vice Minister of Information and Communications Ministry had a speech in the opening ceremony of the 27th Vietnam Informatics Olympiad and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia, Hanoi 2018.
Since its first launch in 1992, and through 26 times of being held, the Vietnam Informatics Olympiad has become a festival of students who keen on IT-Communications, a place where the passion on research and innovation in the field of IT of students from universities and colleges (University-College) in the country is generated, also through which many IT talents have been discovered, fostered, matured.
In 2018, after three years, Informatics Olympiad and the Asian Elimination of International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) returned to Hanoi. For the first time, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology hosted the Vietnam Informatics Olympiad and was one of 18 points holding ICPC programming contest of Asia which participated in the competition to win one of 35 positions as Asian representatives in the ICPC global final which will take place in Porto, Portugal in April 2019.
The 27th Vietnam Informatics Olympiad (OLPC’18) and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia, Hanoi 2018 were jointly held by Ministry of Education and Training, Vienam Informatics Association, Vietnam Student Association and the host unit- the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) under Ministry of Information and Communication
Taking place from November 27 to 30, 2018, OLPC’18 in connection with programming contest ICPC Asia Hanoi 2018 was a gathering place of 250 teams with over 120 instructors and trainers, with nearly 600 participants from 56 universities, colleges and institutes across the country and 18 international teams from prestigious universities of five countries, including Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia and Taiwan. According to organizers, among the 18 international teams participating in the ICPC Asia Hanoi 2018, there were teams from strong and prestigious universities such as Pekin University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tokyo National University, National University of Korea, National Taiwan University, National University of Indonesia.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of OLP’18 and ICPC Asia Hanoi 2018 held on November 28, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications- Mr.Phan Tam said that the Vietnam Informatics Olympiad was the biggest contest in the field of information technology in Vietnam with a history of 27 years, this was the festival of young ICT talents in Vietnam. .
“Contest has become bigger and bigger each year, the number of participating universities and colleges is increasing, participants and contents are increasingly enriched and close to international standards. This is the playground of young, high quality IT human resources of the country; is the place to identify talents in the IT-Communications sector. Students come here with the desire to overcome the challenges of Techniques and Technologies, break their own limits. The 27-year history of the Informatics Olympiad have shown that many excellent students have succeeded from this competition” said the Vice Minister.
By emphasizing that the industrial revolution (IR) 4.0 is bringing many challenges for the country and for each student – the future owner of the country, Vice Minister- Mr. Phan Tam affirmed: “We firmly believe that Vietnam is capable to master its future, overcome the challenges in IR 4.0 just with IT. The talented students here are the outstanding forces to promote the country through IR 4.0”.
The Deputy Minister also expressed his belief: “This contest will leave many valuable experiences and opportunities to stimulate students’ passion in information technology. They will do well with the contest, create new ways, unique approach, give a beautiful solution. The most significant things that they achieve through this competition, in addition to their award, are their maturity, their confidence in their ability to achieve great success in the future. “
Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations awarded the Certificate of Merit to the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, accrediting its efforts as the host of the 27th Vietnam Informatics Olympiad and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia, Hanoi 2018.
For PTIT, according to Vice-President Phan Tam, in the first time to be host of the Vietnam Informatics Olympiad and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia, the Institute affirmed its position and brand on the map of prestigious centers for research and training of high quality human resources on IT-Communications in the Asia-Pacific region..
“Successful completion of this contest is also the fulfillment of Vietnam’s international obligations. The Ministry of Information and Communications highly appreciates that the Vietnam Informatics Association and Vietnam Student Association have worked closely with each other to encourage the confidence of Vietnamese young talents. The contest will help teams and students gain the best competitiveness with global intellectual challenges Throughout the contest, schools and donors have also discovered the IT talents of the country to jointly focus on training and fostering for the country’s talent source, ” the Vice- Minister shared.
PTIT has completed the preparatory work, ready to welcome students from all over the country and famous Asian universities to the contest. Sharing in the opening ceremony, PTIT Director- Mr. Vu Van San said: “With the available experience and resources, the Post and Telecommunication Institute of Technology believes in successfully completion of the the 27th Vietnam Informatics Olympiad and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia, Hanoi 2018”
As planned, on the afternoon of November 28, the individual contents of the contest OLP’18 took place. On November 29 was the time for the contents of open source softwares of the contest OLP’18. ICPC Asia Hanoi 2018 online contest was held at ICPC-PTIT Arena on the morning of November 30. The closing and award ceremony of the OLP’18 and ICPC Asia Hanoi 2018 took place on the afternoon of November 30.
A NAPROCK representative introduced the PROCON programming contest to students attending the opening ceremony of the 27th Vietnam Student Olympiad and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia, Hanoi 2018 .
Also in the opening ceremony, Professor Takayuki Teramoto, Tsuyama University, Japan National Institute of Technology, representative of NAPROCK introduced the PROCON programming contest to students attending the event. It is expected that in 2019 Vietnam will organize a PROCON playground and proceed to host PROCON Asia by 2020.
Vice Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam and Director of Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology – Vu Van San awarded for the team of students achieved high results in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2018.
In the opening ceremony, the results of the teams competing in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2018 were officially recognized. The organizers awarded prizes to the teams won high prizes in ICPC elimination rounds held in the North and Central regions of Vietnam, and the non-professional teams participating in the national online ICPC round this year.
