At the session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Anh, Vice President of PTIT, presented a summary report on the project, emphasizing the project’s primary objective: developing and testing digital solutions utilizing Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies to provide digital skills training for rural target groups in Vietnam, particularly women and youth.

Following this, Dr. Pham Vu Minh Tu, Deputy Director and Project Secretary in charge of PTIT’s Center for International Education, presented a detailed report on the first-year implementation and achieved outcomes. Over the first year (September 2023 to August 2024), the VLIR project in Vietnam supported community development for women and youth through VR/AR technology applications. Main activities included: training and assessment workshops on digital tools, a collaborative seminar with the Women’s Union in Ninh Binh Province, community awareness training, and specialized development sessions. Post-training surveys indicated very positive feedback from participants, with 85.9% expressing high satisfaction with the workshops and 93.2% eager to continue professional training to enhance skills using multimedia tools.

Prof. Dr. Tammy Schellens and Prof. Dr. Martin Valcke commended the progress made by PTIT and partners, particularly for applying VR/AR technology to digital skills training in rural communities. Both professors highlighted that these achievements not only support local capacity-building but also align with sustainable development goals, directly meeting the project’s objectives. Prof. Tammy additionally praised the outcomes of Phase 1 and discussed activity plans for swiftly implementing Phase 2. Given the successful results from the first year, she expressed a strong commitment to collaborate with project partners in expanding these activities, aiming to extend technology applications to new domains to enhance rural development and community education impact.

Furthermore, members of the coordination committee from PTIT and Ghent University engaged in in-depth discussions, raising constructive points regarding both successes and remaining challenges in the first phase. These insights will help refine and strengthen the second year’s project implementation plan.
